White House Claims Significant Improvements at the Ports as Port Labor Contract Deadline Looms
On Nov. 29, President Biden claimed significant improvements in the shipping crisis, claims that don’t mesh with the reality for our industry. That reality was brought home when, on Nov. 16, the International Longshore & Warehouse Union (ILWU) rejected an employer proposal to extend the current West Coast port labor contract by one year (See exchange of letters here). The labor contract is set to expire July 1, 2022.
