TGA Announces 2018 Community Service Award Winners: United By Blue and YaY Novelty
It’s a year of firsts, and the TGA Awards Committee is delighted to announce TWO Community Service Award winners, both doing good in the industry and their communities at large.
United By Blue is dedicated to making the world trash-free and removes one pound of trash from the world’s oceans and waterways for every product sold. They don’t accomplish their ambitious goal by writing checks or accepting donations, but by rallying their team and like-minded volunteers to pick up plastic bottles, tires, appliances, and even abandoned trucks from rivers, streams, creeks, and beaches. Since their start in 2010, United By Blue has hosted 202 clean-ups and removed 1,039,456 pounds of trash across 27 states and counting.
YaY Novelty’s business model incorporates philanthropy into each layer of their company. Founded by Cambodian genocide survivor Sunchea Phou, YaY Novelty funds the Year Zero Foundation, also started by Phou, which provides clean water, medicine and education in Cambodia. YaY Novelty’s production line here in the U.S. provides at-home employment opportunities for women who may not be employable otherwise, due to limited English skills or their need for childcare.
Also celebrated at the TGA Awards Ceremony will be the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place winners of the Product Innovation Award and, for the first time, the winners of the Best Booth and Buzz Awards. Join us on Wednesday, February 28 at 5:30 p.m. in the Las Vegas Convention Center to honor the people, companies and products that are changing travel and making the world a better and more portable place.
