2014 Travel Goods Show Forecast: Warm and Sunny
The 2013 Travel Goods Show is barely over, and already there’s big news afoot for The 2014 Show – we’re going to warm and sunny Phoenix, Arizona!
Why Phoenix? There are plenty of reasons:
- Space — 126,000 square feet of exhibit space was sold at The 2013 Show at Mandalay Bay — 16% more than what is available in the Las Vegas Convention Center’s North Hall, the only convention facility available in Las Vegas during our Show’s traditional time frame.
- Numbers — The Show had a record 260 exhibitors in 2013, a 30% increase over 2012. We can’t turn away that many exhibitors just to fit into a smaller venue.
- Timing — Las Vegas doesn’t have additional space available during our mid-February to mid-March time frame. An earlier Show conflicts with the Chinese New Year making production samples difficult to obtain; a later Show has less meaningful impact on the selling season.
Logistically, Phoenix works for us on many levels. It is a first-tier city, meaning non-stop flights are available to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport from most U.S. cities. It is a hub for American/U.S. Airways and Southwest, and also offers non-stop flights from international destinations. The Phoenix Convention Center is just five miles away from the airport, and an abundance of affordable lodging options from major hotel chains are located nearby. Of particular interest to Show exhibitors is the fact that Phoenix is a right-to-work state with liberal work rules, and labor and drayage rates are approximately 10% less than Las Vegas.
Phoenix has the room we need, on a schedule that works for our industry. And it’s a terrific winter destination – a favorite for snowbirds, a classic locale for baseball spring training and golf enthusiasts, and for 2014, an outstanding place to host The International Travel Goods Show.
So, mark your calendars for 2014 and beyond – and thank you for your continuing support of TGA and The International Travel Goods Show.
