Seating and Storage in One

The Playamigo is more than a portable, versatile and well-made ground chair; it has storage, too. Featuring a lightweight, streamlined design, it combines seating and storage for people who love relaxing outdoors — but don’t love hauling multiple pieces of cumbersome gear to get there. The wedge-shaped chair offers support in three positions: upright, reclined and prone. An internal frame provides structural support in recline mode, but it’s still sleek and easy to carry and maneuver. In storage mode, Playamigo can hold a picnic blanket, beach towel, snacks, sunscreen and more. A removable zippered pouch helps protect valuables and elastic straps keep items in place. Zippered exterior pockets keep frequently-used items such as phone, wallet and keys close at hand and a convertible strap allows the user to carry Playamigo over the shoulder, across the body or as a backpack. It collapses for easy stowing when not in use. MSRP: $129. Sales contact: Suzanne Fontaine, suzanne@

‘A Case for Giving’ Program a Win for All Involved

Briggs & Riley has brought its charitable luggage trade-in program, “A Case for Giving,” back for the eighth year. Through August 31, consumers who bring their gently used rolling bag to a participating specialty retailer in the U.S. and Canada receive a $100 credit towards a new Briggs & Riley bag (if donating a used Briggs & Riley rolling bag), or a $50 credit (if donating a rolling bag from another brand).
More than 300 charity partners nationwide benefit, including local foster homes, women’s shelters, coalitions for the homeless and more. More than 220 retail locations participate, including leading department store Dillard’s, Brookstone Airport Stores and fine specialty retailers nationwide.
“We launched this program after learning that on a joyous day of being adopted, children in the foster care system often have nothing but a trash bag to pack all their life possessions,” said Briggs & Riley CEO Richard Krulik.
The program also benefits the environment by keeping bags out of landfills. To date, Briggs & Riley has donated more than 5,000 bags. For more information about Briggs & Riley products, visit www.briggs-riley.com.

Crowdfunded Product Expansion

memobottle™, the company that created the notebook-thin, leakproof water bottle design that slides into laptop bags, airline seat pockets and back pockets, is expanding into lifestyle products. Packing Expert Puts HBOMAX Show to the Test

Travel goods industry vets tuning into the HBOMAX series, “The Flight Attendant,” have no doubt raised an eyebrow at the amount of stuff Cassie Bowden, the title character played by actress Kaley Cuoco, routinely packs into a small tote she perches atop her 16-inch roller bag. Thankfully, travel packing expert Anne McAlpin, founder and CEO of Pack It Up: The Art of Organized Travel, was asked by writer Claire Spellberg Lustig to weigh in on Cassie’s packing methodology for a recent story in Primetimer.
How does the flighty flight attendant fit her trademark large (but admittedly fabulous) coats, plus clothes including bulky sweaters, multiple pairs of shoes, makeup and other essentials into such small cases?
Focusing her comments on Cassie’s go-to extra-long puffer coat, McAlpin noted, “A large compression bag would squish it down, but that would take up probably three-fourths of that rolling tote,” she said. “It would be a tight fit.”
The less-is-more packing expert then put her compression theory to the test for Primetimer. Check out the article here and see what McAlpin discovered in the course of her investigation. (On a side note, sharp-eyed industry vets may recognize the similarity of Cassie’s cases to Travelpro’s Crew VersaPack Rolling Tote and Deluxe Tote, released as part of a collab with the show.)
