NEW DATE: The 2017 International Travel Goods Show Will Be April 5-7

The Travel Goods Association and its Board of Directors is pleased to announce that The 2017 International Travel Goods Show is moving to April 5-7, 2017. This decision was made after listening to the significant number of retailers and exhibitors concerned with the original early February date, especially its conflicts with other shows, Super Bowl Sunday and Chinese New Year; we also heard early February was too far ahead of the selling season. Unfortunately, our usual early- to mid-March timeframe is unavailable in Las Vegas in 2017 due to CONEXPO, which returns every three years and dominates venues city-wide for several weeks. After exploring all possible alternatives – including other host cities and venues – the Board and Show staff concluded that The Show had to remain in Las Vegas for a multitude of reasons, not the least of which was the additional cost it would place on retailers, exhibitors, The Show and TGA. We realize any change is potentially daunting, and hope you understand that the TGA staff is here and ready to help to ensure a positive Show experience for 2017 and beyond. More California Prop 65 Notices

New "60-day" notices have been issued alleging that brands and retailers sold handbags (Notice 1), accessories (Notice 1), belts (Notice 1) and other items in California that contained lead, Di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP), and Diisononyl phthalate (DINP) in violation of a California law known as Proposition 65 (Prop 65). The notices serve as intent to bring lawsuits against the recipients that sold these products. TGA has included these notices in the TGA Prop 65 "60 Day Notice" running list. TGA will continue to update this list on a regular basis to help catalog the effects of this law on the travel goods industry. Travelport CEO Gordon Wilson said that uncertainty surrounding elections are leading both leisure and business travelers to postpone trips. “Some of the negatives are elections,” said Wilson, when asked about major trends affecting travel demand on Travelport’s first quarter earnings call. “It may sound daft, but I’ve been doing this for 25 years now, and the elections tend to sort of suppress travel for whatever reason.” READ MORE

GM and Lyft Look to Make Self-Driving Taxis a Reality

If you've been counting on your Uber driver to help you get acquainted with a new city, newsflash: There soon may not be anyone in the driver's seat, at least not if you're using Uber's ride-hailing competitor, Lyft. General Motors, which announced the launch of its own car-sharing program earlier this year, is partnering with Lyft to begin testing a line of self-driving electric taxis.
